Rutilated Silver Quartz dangle earrings, cabochon cut stones. 6.60 ct., set in vermeil YG over sterling silver. The term rutilated applies when a stone has natural inclusions of Rutile, an Iron Oxide mineral. These inclusions can appear in various types of quartz as fine threads of gold, silver, red, or black running through the stone. These threads cannot usually be seen by the naked eye but are visible under a jeweler's loop. The presence of these threads often adds flashes of their color into the stones either with movement of the wearer or a changing light source.
